My Favorite Song: Escape (The Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes

With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, it seems reasonable that people would be thinking about love, and possibly, chocolate. Part of love might involve thinking about songs that lovers like and call their own as they download those Free Mp3 love songs. There is a special meaning behind every song that is written and sung. In addition, we give meaning to our favorite song apart from the songwriter’s meaning of it. My favorite song is a pop song called Escape (also known as the “Pina Colada Song”). Let’s take a closer look at this beautiful, touching, and meaningful song.

Escape, by Rupert Holmes, is about a married man who is bored with his marriage because he feels that his wife and he do the same thing day in and day out. In short, he feels like his marriage is in a rut. Therefore, he decides to take out a personal ad in the newspaper in order to add a bit of spice into his life. The personal ad talks about some of his favorite things such as drinking pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain. The song goes further into other things that he likes such as yoga, healthy food, and making love at midnight. In this ad, he asks any woman that likes the same thing to respond to his ad. Finally, a woman does answer his ad and they agree to meet at a bar. When he gets there after a few minutes he realizes that the woman who answered his ad is his wife. After he realizes this, they both laugh and he says that he never knew that his wife liked drinking pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain too.

The true meaning behind Escape seems to be that all relationships will go through its ups and downs. However, couples who love each other need to communicate and not take each other for granted. If this happens then, a couple’s life will always be romantic. Escape has meaning for me because I like the fact that the song talks about a long time married couple in love who finds out that they still have much in common through a very funny circumstance. Also, this is my favorite song because I love drinking pina Coladas. I also think of making love in Hawaii while drinking a pina colada on the beach when I hear this song. Moreover, Escape was my dad’s favorite song; therefore, I always think of my dad when I hear it.

Songs have meaning to both the songwriters who write them and the people who hear them. Escape is no exception. It is my favorite song and if you hear it then, I hope you will like it, too.
