Old Major Restaurant- A Collaboration of Colorado

Driving into the Highlands, passing by Gaetano’s I see what used to be an old abandoned building just past 33rd. Park on the street and walk over- then enter into an experience not seen in Denver until now. Old Major, partnered by several different geniuses who have all made names for themselves in this grand ole city… Justin Brunson (Masterpiece Deli, Denver Bacon Co.), Juan and Katie O’Shea Padro (Highland Tap & Burger) and Ben Parsons (Infinite Monkey Theorem Winery) whom are all … [Read more...]

Light or Dark roast coffee? Which is better?

Light-and-Dark-Coffee.jpg

Coffee, like almost everything, is highly a matter of taste. Once you get to the point where you are; 1. grinding your coffee fresh each morning (I use a conical grinder and do not know how I survived without one) and making the brew within 10 minutes of grinding. 2. Using filtered water- When I make coffee, I want to taste the coffee. I am not a fan of tasting chlorine, fluoride and/or whatever else might be floating around in the tap water. 3. Measuring out the perfect coffee to … [Read more...]

Denver Bacon Company- A new Masterpiece!

DBC-Logo_thumb.jpg

Who loves bacon?… Okay… better question- who does NOT love bacon? Bacon is one of those necessary evils. You love to love it but at the same time realize that it is not something you should eat at every meal, right? That being said, when you do eat that wonderful fruit of the swine, shouldn’t you make sure it is the highest quality, best tasting bacon you can buy? Such is the quest of one of my  personal favorite local chef’s- Justin Brunson of Masterpiece Deli and Old Major, … [Read more...]

Perfect party punch

DSC00454.jpg

When I go to a baby shower I am always hoping that they will have this yummy punch, but I have never made it myself until now! This non-alcoholic punch is gorgeous and delicious for everyone. I made one cup just to show you how gorgeous it is, but you would generally make it in a giant punch bowl… since I don’t actually have a party going on, I didn’t want a whole huge bowl of it! Ingredients- A can of any clear soda that you choose (I used Sierra Mist as my drink but you can use … [Read more...]

What is Fair Trade Coffee?

Coda_thumb.gif

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Organic -Good luck saying that name five times real fast… I stopped back in at my new favorite coffee roaster- Coda Coffee- to see what else I could try - I walked away with a pound of their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Organic coffee, and a question. This was late on a Friday afternoon, so I was forced to wait until Saturday morning, mouth literally watering on the drive home from the fragrant smell of this organic, fair trade certified coffee. I love a light roast coffee … [Read more...]

Catering a super bowl party?

chipotle.png

Last week something amazing happened, maybe you heard about it? Chipotle announced that they are going to start offering catering! Chipotle catering allows groups of 20 to 200 to customize their own individual meal, just like you can in the restaurant. You can choose between a taco or burrito bowl spread that can be ordered with two or three meats (including responsibly raised grilled chicken or steak, and shredded barbacoa or carnitas) and it comes complete with sides, including cilantro-lime … [Read more...]

Coda Coffee- Local Coffee Roaster In Denver Colorado

Coda.gif

I am a coffee lover. I am a coffee snob. I am a coffee…? I search for good coffee, the best coffee, local coffee. I use filtered water when I make coffee. When I switch to a different type of coffee, I clean my machine and cup completely so as not to mix the flavors. Single origins are my favorite. I have tried Kona, Blue Mountain, Civet, and a myriad of other coffees. Most recently I was on a hunt for something new, something different and something local. Google, here I come. I … [Read more...]

How to make a zebra stripped cake

mickey-mouse-cake.png

Directions- 1. Make your favorite cake recipes, any colors that you would like as long as they are different colors. You can think totally out of the box here and make 2 white cakes and then color them any colors that you would like with food coloring. I made a chocolate and a white cake to fit in with my Mickey Mouse theme.   2. Prepare your cake pans however you would normally, I used two 14” round pans that I greased and then floured. Once your pans … [Read more...]
