When my boys told me they wanted a Minecraft birthday party, I quickly realized it was going to be difficult! The products aren’t licensed (I guess?) so you can’t really find any Minecraft party supplies. I had to figure out how to throw a Minecraft birthday party all by myself, but I think it turned out pretty great! Here I will show you how I made a Minecraft Pinata, Creeper wall decor, Creeper pizza, Minecraft party decor (railing wraps, etc.), and a Minecraft birthday party ice cream sundae bar.
We bought a square pinata at Walmart and made our own block of grass out of it.
- Brown paint
- Green paint
- Gray puff paint
- Square pinata
Paint the bottom part of the pinata brown, going with the “grain” of the paper, so you don’t rip it. Let each side dry, and then paint the next side, don’t forget to do the bottom too! Paint the top couple of inches of the sides green, and paint the top to match. I drew little pebbles on the brown part, to mimic the game, and add some interest to the pinata… instead of just having brown and green.
Creeper wall decor-
I wanted to decorate the house to match the theme, of course! I took construction paper and made a Creeper wall! I copied a picture of a Creeper online to figure out how many squares across, and how many of each light green, dark green, and black. Here is what I did- D=dark, L=light, B-black. As you can see in the unfinished picture, I used rectangle paper, and I made it look like squares by starting from the bottom and covering up the top portion of each paper with the paper above it. I used blue painters tape to hang it all.
For dinner, I prepared Minecraft pizza. Using a pizza cutter, I quickly cut the edges off of pepperoni and turned them into squares. I added the squares to a frozen, store-bought, square pizza, in the shape of a creeper face. It was perfect!
Right inside of our front door we have a railing, which is pretty boring, so I used crepe paper to make it more Minecraft-y! I alternated light green, dark green, and a couple of rows of brown. I also bought some Minecraft colored balloons to add to the fun!
Minecraft Sundae bar-
I found this website, with printable Minecraft tags, and printed them up, and a few blank ones too! I ended up creating a few labels on my own, which was scary because I am not artistic at all, but I googled pictures of the items I was trying to draw, and just drew squares, it was simple and they turned out really good. I drew my own fish, sticks, and melon, not too shabby! I found the little trays, and the tongs at the Dollar Tree. I glued the labels to Popsicle sticks.
You can do whatever you want with these snacks, but we made an ice cream sundae bar.
- Coal- chocolate covered cookie dough bits (sold in the store, in a box with the candy)
- Diamonds- I bought blue rock candy suckers and broke them up
- Fish- Swedish Fish
- Melon- Watermelon gummies
- Sticks- Pretzel sticks
- Gold- Gold wrapped Hershey bars
- Golden Apples- Lemon Heads
- Redstone- Cherry sours
