Pixels is a new movie From Director Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter 1,2 and 3 just to name a few) which stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad. The story begins in 1982, when video games were pure, unadulterated pixelish fun. They based themselves on hand-eye coordination and most of the time, beating a computer generated opponent.
In 1982, Pres Reagan sent up a time capsule into space which held many prized items- video games being a major part apparently. The aliens who intercepted this parcel took it as a threat, and in response sent back ships filled with… our video game heroes and villains.
From Pac-Man to Centipede, enter Donkey Kong and Galaga are just a few of the obstacles in our heroes way to saving the earth.
Not to get into it too deep, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was great fun from a nostalgia point of view, (who remembers the dimly lit, dirty carpeted “Gold Mine” video game arcades…), the cast filled with comical talent we all know and love from a multitude of arenas, and overall a really cool concept of a movie. Despite the name, the movie was actually very high quality of filming and the 3D special effects were mesmerizing, ensuring that both Moose and Tater were glued to the screen through the entire movie.
Who is this movie for? Fun for all ages, however those under the age of 5 might be a little scared at some of the Pixel-violence
Who is this movie not for? Anyone who hates the eighties, video games or fun in general…
My recommendation? See it- see it in 3D, get some popcorn and sit back for the memories and laughs.
