You might know that we love scuba diving, and generally when we go on vacation it is mostly centered around dive spots! When we decided to go scuba diving in Cozumel, we chose to stay at an all-inclusive dive resort called Scuba Club Cozumel Dive Resort.
When we arrived in Cozumel the resort picked us up at the airport, and the drive to SCC (Scuba Club Cozumel) was gorgeous, so lush and green! The resort itself was very pretty, it was perfectly suited to Cozumel, with old world style tiles through the courtyard and decorating the guest rooms.
Our room was your traditional dive resort room, very basic, but also quite beautiful and relaxing. You won’t find a television or any unnecessary entertainment here, because most of the time you spend all day diving and by the time you actually make it to your room all you want to do is sleep so that you can get up early and dive the next day!
Scuba Diving in Cozumel
SCC is a PADI 5-Star facility with a full service dive center located inside of the hotel premises. They have an air filling station and a four-stage filtering system, along with a full line of rental gear. Like most dive resorts, they offer all sorts of specialty courses and certification levels.
The dive boats here are pretty nice, well maintained and manned by some really fun captains. They have a fleet of 7 customized diesel boats that deliver you to your dive site safely, and feature platforms and ladders.
You can rent your gear at the resort, so that you don’t have to worry about taking it on the plane with you and lugging it through the airport.
One of the coolest things that I found here was that they have unlimited beach diving, you can dive right offshore at the resort.
The jagged ironshore limestone wall gives refuge to many juvenile reef fish, lobsters, crabs, octopus, and even an occasional seahorse – great for macro photography. Depth is about 15′-25′ and access is easy from either of the piers using the specially built stairs, complete with hand rails. -Scuba Club Cozumel website
My thoughts on Scuba Club Cozumel
The resort is gorgeous, as I mentioned before, it was very relaxing and had a very warm and friendly feeling. Most of the resorts I have visited have had a nice staff, and this one is no exception, everyone was very kind and answered our questions without hesitation.
I want to mention the food too, you get to choose from an actual menu, not just one or two options like other resorts. You will find plenty of Mexican food options mixed in with Yucatecan and native Mayan dishes. If you aren’t into those sorts of food, you can always opt for a sandwich or a burger and fries or the salad bar. So, you are never stuck choosing between 2 options that aren’t really what you want or enjoy. The restaurant is in a gorgeous room, filled with windows that overlook the entire resort and the views cannot be beat! Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included in the cost of your stay.
The storage lockers are located outside, by the dive shop, and because of the heat here everything dries pretty quickly; most days we started out with completely dried wet suits, which I enjoy.
The resort is near a store (grocery store/pharmacy), within walking distance, so if you end up needing anything you can just walk over and grab what you need. It was actually really nice to get out and walk around the little town a bit. There is a place where you can swim with the dolphins right down the street too and when you walk down the street you can hear the dolphins “talking” and you can peek through the fence and watch the fun!
We had a great time, and we would come back here again! I would recommend SCC to anyone, it was really a great time, with a good selection of delicious food and amazing diving!
