I am sure you are asking yourself the question that I was asking myself when my kids’ announced “mommy, we want Jenga Boom!” I was like… what? What is that? I know Jenga, I adore Jenga, I remember playing it when I was growing up but this whole ‘Boom’ thing was new to me.
It turns out that this new version of Jenga was just released in January and my kiddos must have seen a commercial for it. The retail price is $17.99, which I think is average for games these days and I also think they are worth every penny because they encourage families to play together (I love that).
The new Jenga Boom game is an explosion of fun! The edge-of-your-seat action is taken to the next level with a ticking-timer-exploding platform underneath the tower of blocks. Players now have to rush to push, pull and stack the blocks without knocking over the tower. Just be sure to make your move before the platform blows!
I think of this game as Jenga meets Perfection (remember that game?) where you are trying to do a puzzle of sorts and there is a little ticking timer letting you know that if you don’t hurry the heck up the whole thing is going to wind up all over the table! It always makes me so nervous to try to play games when I can actually hear the timer! We have really enjoyed this game though, the kids think it is so much fun to try to hurry so that it doesn’t blow up on their turn and they encourage each other to hurry too! Because the game goes by pretty quickly they could play it over and over without feeling bored or distracted, which I really love. Every few minutes you just reset and start over, through laughter and poking at whomever “made it explode.”
Overall, this game is really fun and my kids’ and I have really enjoyed it! They have even been playing together without fighting… miracle!

We like to see movies as a family. With the kids at teenager stage, they go with their friends quite often, but every now and again we get to go all together, which is great. We also have Family Games Night about once a month, which is usually fun (as long as someone doesn’t cheat!)
