Mama- The Scary Movies Come Early in 2013

Do you enjoy being scared? Jumping out of your seat? Are you worried that the creature you are scaring at on the screen is going to crawl out and make you it’s next victim? I find the supernatural movies are scarier than the monster type, and this one definitely fit the supernatural bill. Mama Scream

Guillermo Del Toro’s newest on screen creation was one of the better scary movies I have seen in a while. The suspense and presentation were masterful and kept you guessing the entire way, all the way to the end.

I was most impressed with the acting of Megan Charpentier. This young actress seemed to pull you into the story, while her younger sister Isabelle Nelisse added an element that you normally only get from watching children of the corn…

Now the synopsis:

Five years ago, sisters Victoria and Lilly vanished from their suburban neighborhood without a trace. Since then, their Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his girlfriend Annabel (Jessica Chastain) have been madly searching for them. But when the kids are found alive in a decrepit cabin, the couple wonders if the girls are the only guests they have welcomed into their home. As Annabel tries to introduce the children to a normal life, she starts growing convinced of an evil presence in their house with the presence being someone they call their “Mama.”

Mama was a scary movie, leaving you feeling like something was amiss in the world once it ended- leaving the question, what else is out there?

Who this is for- if you liked The Ring and other Japanese style thrillers, you will enjoy this movie.

Who this is not for- leave the kids at home- it might leave you dealing with nightmares for a while if you don’t.

My Recommendation- I like watching scary movies at home, but some prefer to watch them in the theater- whichever you prefer this is one that is worth checking out…

Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I thought the trailers of this movie looked really creepy. I don’t think it’s my cup of tea. ;-)
