I am a HUGE Jack Reacher fan. I love the books, have read them all, at least twice… Lee Child is a master of drawing you in and creating this character in your imagination. Reacher is 6′ 5″ tall with a 50-inch chest, weighing between 210 and 250 pounds. Enter- Tom Cruise…5’7” and approximately 170 pounds. Slight difference here… right?
So, needless to say, I went walking into this movie with some reservations. Based on the book One Shot, the movie does a good, not great, job of following the book. However- purely as a movie- it was really good. The action, suspense and acting were all superb. Tom Cruise once again showed his skill set as a fantastic action guy, playing the ex-military policeman with ease. Again, just watching the movie, you miss some of the small nuances of who Reacher really is. He is a man who carries nothing around, nothing but his Passport, toothbrush and a debit card. When he needs to change clothes, he buys some new and throws the old away… He is a drifter, a lone nomad in the purest sense. If you haven’t read the books, but really enjoy a good series, check it out!
Who this is for- it was clean, well played with only a hint of sexuality. There was some gunfire in the beginning, so I would not recommend this for those under 13.
Who this is not for? I had trouble with the Jack Reacher Character portrayed on the screen, because I have read all of the books. So I say this- don’t go into this movie expecting it to be like reading the book, or you will be disappointed.
My Recommendation- Worth checking out in the theater if you can’t wait until the DVD, otherwise hold off for a few months and check it out from Redbox.
