Is Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters a good movie for kids?

Jeremy Renner is coming into his own. I remember going out on a first date with some chick(ahem-Sarah) to go see SWAT (don’t judge me… she dug it). Now almost 10 years later I am married to that chick and I am still enjoying the acting of Mr. Renner. Avengers, Bourne and most recently- Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Hansel-Gretel-Witch-Hunters

Synopsis-: After getting a taste for blood as children,Hansel and Gretel have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them,Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches…their past.

My take on this one? Action was great, the movie was intense and the IMAX 3D effects were superior. Normally I don’t see that much of the 3d effects but on this one I actually flinched anytime a body part flew “out” of the screen- and there were a multitude of body parts flying.

Changed from PG-13 to R this week, it was definitely deserving of the latter… While I thoroughly enjoyed it, this is not something that I would take Moose, Tater or Boo to go see. There was one small scene with nudity, a few F-bombs dropped and as stated above, a lot of body parts and blood flying all over the screen.

All of that aside, this was well thought out and directed by Norwegian Tommy Wirkola. The special effects were fantastic, the storyline original and of course- the weapons. Not necessarily true to the period but very comic bookish and cool nonetheless.

Who this is for? Did you like Van Helsing? You will most likely enjoy this one

Who this is not for? Kids under the age of 13 and anyone who gets queasy…

My Recommendation?- If you love 3D effects- check this out in the theater, otherwise wait until Blu-ray and watch it from the safety of your home.

Enjoy!
