I have to admit- I do love Kevin James- he is funny, large boned- and yet graceful… some of his physical feats that I have seen in movies still amaze me. Dancing in Hitch- running around in Zookeeper- driving a Segway and running an obstacle course in Paul Blart- Mall Cop- you wouldn’t think he could do it- but he does. Now, in his most recent movie Here Comes the BOOM! He is a Biology teacher turned MMA Fighter in a seriously funny and gratifying story.
Kevin James plays Scott Voss- A high school biology teacher who for all intensive purposes has lost interest in his life and his job. That is, until he is in a staff meeting when it is announced that they will be cutting the music program completely therefore terminating the job of his longtime buddy and teacher- Marty Streb (played by Henry Winkler). He then begins a journey which takes him through several funny, and awesome moments.
Filled with some amazing fight scenes- Here Comes the Boom is a story of a man with a cause for another- who finds himself during the process. Here is the synopsis-
In the comedy HERE COMES THE BOOM, former collegiate wrestler Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher (Henry Winkler), Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Everyone thinks Scott is crazy – most of all the school nurse, Bella (Salma Hayek) – but in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school.
Who this is for- It might be a little violent for kids under the age of 10- but not wholly inappropriate. MMA is a sport that has truly professional athletes in its ranks. As long as the kid is old enough to understand it is not good to superman punch their little sibling… they should be okay.
Who this isn’t for- See above…
My recommendation- See this in the theater, you won’t regret it!
