Do you know who is really cool? I mean, really super, duper, must-be-the-coolest-dad on Earth cool? Steve Spangler! You know, the science guy from Ellen? Well, that is where I first saw him and I have been watching him on YouTube ever since. This one is still my very favorite-
When I was invited to attend his Science in the Rockies conference for teachers this year I almost fell over, I was so excited! I had heard about this conference from some of my friends and everything I had heard pointed to the fact that it was going to be an amazing time.
The conference was two full days of learning different experiments that we could do with our students, and it was really inspirational! I loved seeing all of those teachers with a light in their eyes, ready to head out and educate our children.
So many teachers are giving up on teaching science, especially when it comes to doing actual experiments… and as a parent (and someone who used to be a student!) I can say that experiments are probably the very best part of school! I remember looking forward to science class, and waiting to see what we would be doing that particular day. I want my kids to have that same feeling, and since we homeschool it should be easy to give it to them! Steve Spangler helped me realize that science doesn’t have to be nerve wracking, I don’t have to worry about doing something wrong… because if I do, it is just another learning experience for all of us!
You might have missed Science in the Rockies this year, but do not fear! There is always next year! You can’t wait? Why don’t you take a look at Science at Sea? An awesome Alaskan cruise with Holland America and Spangler Seminars.
Disclosure: I was provided with tickets to the Science in the Rockies Conference and the science kits that were given to the teachers, so that I could try the experiments myself with my own students. No other compensation was given.
