Bike messengers are truly a unique breed of people. Brave/Dumb/Crazy- however you want to call it- the life of a messenger is exciting, and dangerous. More so for the messenger portrayed in Columbia Pictures new "Premium Rush" a story about
(synopsis time…)
Dodging speeding cars, crazed cabbies and eight million cranky pedestrians is all in a day’s work for Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the best of New York’s agile and aggressive bicycle messengers. It takes a special breed to ride the fixie – super lightweight, single-gear bikes with no brakes and riders who are equal part skilled cyclists and nutcases who risk becoming a smear on the pavement every time they head into traffic. But a guy who’s used to putting his life on the line is about to get more than even he is used to when his last envelope of the day – a routine “premium rush” run – turns into a life or death chase through the streets of Manhattan.
I loved the story, the scenes were amazing and the movie had the right balance of action and suspense with comedic scenes. Joseph is truly coming up into his role as a fantastic actor and I look forward to seeing him again.
Who this is for- Adrenaline junkies, or those of us who enjoy a great action flick- My eight year old loved it, purely for the bike scenes and the stunts.
Who this isn’t for- there was not any nudity, very little cursing and no dead bodies- and it has a happy ending- so really- it is up to you to decide if your kid will sit through it…
My Recommendation- worth checking out in the theater, and for sure worth seeing on Blu Ray/DVD.
Enjoy!
