On Jason’s birthday every year he begs me to go camping, but it is at least a month before camping is even possible in Colorado; each year I remind him that it is too cold, and then he pouts a bit.
This year I found an alternative that I knew he would love, a trip to Fawn Valley Inn in Estes Park. I told him about my plan, and he looked at the website and thought it would be great.
We booked unit #203, which is a deluxe one-bedroom condo on the river. It is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom condo with a king sized bed in the bedroom and a queen sized futon in the living room. It has a kitchen that includes pots and pans, plates, silverware and utensils. There is a great little wood burning fireplace in the corner of the living room, which made it really nice for us to sit around the little coffee table, eat some little snacks and play board games with the kids.
We were really impressed with the room, it was wonderful! There is a little balcony with 2 chairs and a table where we sat in the morning and listened to the river flowing (a mere 15ft from us), it was beyond anything I could have dreamed up. There were also Elk roaming around the grounds of the hotel, grazing and resting, it was beautiful.
We found a gorgeous little brown leather bound book in our room and started to look through it, and when we did we found the most amazing thing! It was a guest book for room 203, everyone who has stayed in that room writes a little note inside. There were pictures drawn by kids, letters from grandparents telling of their amazing time with their kids and grandkids, mom’s telling tales of family fun, and lots of talk about tradition… it seems that this is a more than a destination, it is a tradition! People come every single year, and stay in the same room every time, so that they can document it in the guest book. What a beautiful sentiment, some of the stories made me tear up and hug by boys, so happy to be making our own memories in that same place; hopefully OUR new tradition!
Another thing that I *need* to mention: the linens! The sheets were so soft, it was truly dreamy! It has been a couple of weeks and I am still wondering what the thread count on those babies were! I thought of throwing some in my bag and paying whatever the charge was. I normally get a serious back ache after sleeping in a hotel, but not this time, the bed was just lovely.
