There is often a dilemma among breast feeding mother’s; how do you cover yourself in public while nursing your baby and trying to keep both of you comfortable but not exposing yourself to the world. I know that there are women who don’t care about everyone seeing their breast and I am fine with that, it’s your choice but I am not one of those people. I could never just pull my shirt up and feed without having a blanket over myself and my baby, it would just be so strange for me, I am a very private person. The other side of this issue is that you have to cover your baby in order to cover yourself, which is a problem because it disrupts eye contact and interaction between mother and baby.
Here are some things that I have heard about the importance of having eye contact with your baby; eye contact is like a drug for a baby, when you look into their eyes they have a chemical reaction to it, they get excited and they can feel love and happiness from it. Another thing that I have heard is that babies are only able to see 6-8 inches, which is usually the distance from the breast to the mother’s face, to me this shows that it was designed that the baby would be able to look at the mother while they are eating.
There is a product out there that allows you to cover yourself but not your baby! It’s called BabyBond and it is fantastic! You wrap the 100% cotton (machine washable) sash around yourself and there is an opening for just your nipple. You let the baby latch on and ta-da! Everything is covered on you and you don’t have to hide your baby. A hybrid of a nursing shirt and a belly band, it can be worn to nurse from either the bottom or the top of your shirt so it will work with any item in your wardrobe. If you wear it like a sash it functions like a nursing shirt. When worn wrapped around your tummy like a belt it is like a belly band. They come in a variety of colors too so they will match anything you put on.
There are 3 different types of BabyBond nursing covers-
- The BabyBond Original is worn with shirts that are able to nurse from the top and it has a built-in burp cloth and matching storage pouch.
- The BabyBond Flex is to wear with shirts that are able to nurse from the top and it has a built-in burp cloth and matching storage pouch.
- The BabyBond Couture is adjustable and can be worn with shirts that are able to nurse from the bottom or the top. It rolls up into itself to store.
The people at BabyBond have offered to give one of my lovely readers a BabyBond of their very own!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
